Explained: The new Microsoft Surface Duo

 A new way to work on the go


All right guys, am sure you were waiting for a foldable screen smartphone like the rest are doing. No no no, Microsoft is venturing that idea in another way. The Microsoft Surface Duo is a smartphone with Dual, high-resolution PixelSense™ Fusion Displays which open to a 8.1" for more space to get things done. A new smarter way to work on your hands on the go with an innovative 360° hinge, two screens, and apps that seamlessly work together.
Microsoft recently did show its next device, the Microsoft Surface Neo which will kinda look like a bigger Surface Duo. Well, that is a talk for next  time, for today let's dive into the Surface Duo...

We have just said the new Surface Duo comprises of an innovative 360° hinge, two screens, and apps that seamlessly work together but really what does that mean?
  

All Microsoft preloaded applications that come with it are dual screen capable, most Android application on Play Store might not be dual screen capable until later on but with dimensions of 145.2 mm (H) x 186.9 mm (W) x 4.8 mm (T) while open and 145.2 mm (H) x 93.3 mm (W) x 9.9 mm (T at hinge) while closed weighing 250 grams, the Surface Duo is not just a smartphone but a mini-machine.

Such a mini machine with dual screens must be using a lot of power, yes...it's power comes from 3577mAh (typical) dual batteries. One Adaptive camera 11MP, f/2.0, 1.0 µm, PDAF and 84.0° diagonal FOV optimized with AI for front and rear, video recording capability of 1080p at 30 fps and 60 fps to 4k at 30 fps and 60 fps and Gyro-based digital video stabilization for video recording while moving.
Does not have 5G and WiFi 6 capabilities but LTE 4x4 MIMO connectivity of up to 1.2Gbps Download/up to 150Mbps Upload and WiFi-5 802.11ac (2.4/5GHz).
Storage of 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.0 internal storage and 6GB DRAM memory
Security is of most importance and the Surface Duo packs a biometric Fingerprint reader (1:100K FAR greater than 3% FRR) and other extra Android authentication features like Swipe, Pin and Password with Microsoft Authenticator app.
Last but not least is that the Surface Duo supports all in market generations of Surface Slim Pen, Surface Pen and Surface Hub 2 Pen.
