Pokemon Go, In or Out?

Lets talk of analytics, most important part of so much. It is always good to know how you are doing and what to improve or throw away. As a blogger its good to know what my readers like and what they want more of. Even in Applications (Apps) Analytics is very important. We all know of Pokémon a game with an awesome history going back to 21 years ago.


Pokémon is a media franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995 and managed by The Pokémon Company, a Japanese consortium where copyright is shared by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures but Nintendo is the sole owner of the trademark.


Just recently Pokémon unleashed Pokémon Go to the World, breaking the internet by creating an avalanche of posts about it. Now, what is Pokémon Go and how does it work and what about it with analytics?
What is Pokémon Go, it is a free-to-play, location-based augmented reality game developed by Niantic Labs, a company born within Google. It created Pokémon Go for iOS and Android devices, initially released in selected countries in July 2016 but moved to other Countries in other Continents emerging the most downloaded game in the history of mobile gaming. Pokémon Go created mixed reviews, with critics praising the game's concept and the incentive to be more active in the real world, while criticizing frequent technical issues apparent at launch. Despite such reviews, it quickly became a global phenomenon and was one of the most used mobile apps, having been downloaded by more than 130 million people worldwide.

Why is the internet going gaga?

In Pokémon Go, players use mobile device's GPS via Google Maps capability to locate, capture, battle, and train virtual characters, called Pokémon. In the game the user gets to create an avatar that can catch, trade, train, and battle Pokémon characters who appear on the screen as if they were in the same real-world location as the player then sends them on a quest to catch the Pokémon. It can place the target catch anywhere near your locality. So, this game would actually make you an outdoor gamer. A much-needed arrangement for the lazy gamers! The game also supports in-app purchases for additional in-game items. For the ones who get the chance to play the VR friendly game, they will find the Pokémon standing right in front of them. Pretty cool,

Pokémon Go and analytics

First of all Niantic labs, Pokémon Go creators started awarding Pokémon Go GPS spoofing cheaters with temporary bans from the game. The ban used to disable the access of cheaters for a brief duration (a few hours). However, the makers now seem to be upping the punishment a bit. Under the new guidelines for cheaters, meaning that users will be permanently banned if caught using any third-party app for Pokemon Go. The third-party apps include PokeVision and other hacks. PokeVision was created to assist players in bypassing the tracker. Niantic is going to be downright strict and unapologetic.


Second, Pokémon Go was reported to be snooping on your Google data right from the signing up step on Pokémon Go through Gmail all while you’re busy finding all the Pokés, the game is overclocking to copy all your data. This has been a great concern as many iOS users have exposed their lethal information. This security risk for information exposure is only applicable for iOS users as Google does not provide them with a way to edit their app permissions, unlike Android.

Finally after all the greatness then come critics, governments, snooping and spoofing going by the data published by app assessment firms like Sensor Tower, SurveyMonkey, Apptopia and Axiom Capital Management later analyzing the data showed that the user metrics for Pokémon Go are declining. The new analytics from multiple app analytics firms states the metrics collected on Pokemon GO’s daily active users, engagement, and downloads. The data shows current month’s indulgence on a decline. In comparison to July, the users do not seem as engaged in August. Well, it had to happen at some point eventually. Not everyone can stay involved in catching Pokemon every day. Most of the users are giving up on the distance that they have to cover for catching Pokemon. Initially, it all came up as a new ‘cool’ thing, but now the trend is on a decline.


According to Senior Analyst – Victor Anthony from Axiom says that the decline in Pokemon Go’s popularity will come as a relief for the big wigs of the app world. According to Anthony, apps such as Facebook, Snapchat, Tinder and Twitter will breathe a sigh of relief. Hahaha do you agree with this or should they have teamed up to satisfy the users and themselves? Did you see this coming? What can Niantic to correct this?
